The Town's History

A Guide

This section of the website is intended to provide materials, articles and images that document the history of Charlestown from its very first settlers (Thomas Walford and family in 1624), to the present day - whatever the current day may be, it will one day be part of Charlestown's history ...

The page consists of the following items (so far ...)

Charlestown's Time-Line:  the results of Carl Zellner's long research into Charlestown's past, from the initial charter to found the town proper on 1628 by the Massachusetts Bay Company, to his last entry in the Time-Line, in 1996.

The Time-Line is presented as a complete document from 1628 to 1996, and also for easier reference, as separate centuries:

Charlestown's Time-Line Complete
Charlestown's Time-Line Seventeenth Century
Charlestown's Time-Line Eighteenth Century
Charlestown's Time-Line Nineteenth Century
Charlestown's Time-Line Twentieth Century

Articles about Charlestown's Past:  educational, possibly amusing, but always interesting material relevent to Charlestown's history.  This material could be from newspapers past and present, websites, books etc, and where relevent, original sources will be cited and where possible, links to informative websites included.

Images of the Past:  the intent for this section is to provide a quick reference to someof the more intertesting scanned images in the CHS archives.
